Description:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. As part of the dynamic youth services team, develops programming for the library district with special focus on service to teens. Promotes library service and resources beyond the walls of the library by engaging community groups, by interacting with youth and by developing activities that best meet their needs. Demonstrates knowledge and appreciation of teen and YA literature, periodicals and audiovisual materials and maintains responsibility for collection development and maintenance for this service population.

2. Offers excellent, proactive reference service with the understanding of how to conduct a reference interview and provide nonjudgmental responses while respecting the patron's right to browse. Offers excellent readers' advisory and programming while inspiring the lifelong love of reading. Works with community organizations and volunteers as a resource for developing and promoting library programming. Serves as an example for all staff in providing library service to youth and communicating expectations. Actively participates and contributes to various library committees and activities.

3. Pursues professional development opportunities and recaps content with others recognizing appropriate audiences and methods for communicating information. Collaborates with fellow professionals in order to contribute to the library profession. Practices self-evaluation and exemplifies advocacy for libraries and youth.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
MLIS/MLS from accredited ALA graduate school or degree completed by December 2013*
2 - 3 years' experience in a library setting, preferred

*Official transcripts will be required upon offer of position

REQUIREMENTS:
Affinity for working with youth, especially teens and their families
Excellent public presentation skills
Proficiency in word processing software, Internet and electronic mail
Ability to navigate OPAC
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license and to transport self to other library locations

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to:
Communicate verbally
Maneuver about the library in a timely fashion; infrequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds with occasional standing, reaching, stooping, bending, and climbing on to a step stool or ladder
Read a minimum print size equal to 10 point Times New Roman font
